The work was sold in 1990 for SEK 22.6 million by the Bukowskis.\u003cbr\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan\u003eWhen Strindberg embarked on creating this piece, his initial vision was to depict \u003cem\u003e\"a shaded forest interior with a glimpse of the sea at sunset.\"\u003c\/em\u003e However, as the painting evolved, he realized the absence of the sea. Instead, in the luminous central section, he discovered \u003cem\u003e\"an endless expanse of pink and bluish light, inhabited by ethereal, indistinct beings floating like fairies in veils of cloud.\"\u003c\/em\u003e Strindberg observed that the forest had transformed into a cave, and the foreground resembled rocks adorned with lichen.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan\u003eAugust Strindberg (1849-1912) was a Swedish writer, playwright and artist. He is considered one of Sweden's most important writers, internationally known primarily as a playwright.
