The painting and its companion, \u003cem\u003eAutumn\u003c\/em\u003e , were exhibited at the Apollo Association in January 1839.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n\u003cp\u003e \u003cspan style=\"font-weight: 400;\"\u003eCapitalizing on the vogue for allegorical and romantic portraiture, Thompson constructed sentimentalized visions of young women. In the painting of the beautiful woman, we see her adorned in the latest style of the season and placed in a lush garden complete with the neoclassical marble urn.
