The Photograph as Sketch Material
The camera was intended as a working tool: around 1854, Eugène Durieu and Eugène Delacroix made photographic figure studies that artists could use instead of live models. Getty attributes this particular albumen print to Durieu, possibly in collaboration with Delacroix – an early encounter between painting and photography.

The story behind the motif

A beautiful woman sits as a model in Paris in 1854. The photograph is part of the Getty Museum in Los Angeles and was taken by the French photographer Jean Louis Marie Eugene Durieu.

Black collection are selected motifs where we replaced the white passepartout with a black one to highlight the motif in a modern and unique way.
