About the pair
Astrid Lindgren and Saltkråkan belong together in a more direct way than most motif pairings. Saltkråkan is one of the worlds in which her storytelling about children, adults, freedom, and the Swedish landscape found its most beloved form – with the archipelago as a protagonist in its own right.
When the portrait of Astrid hangs beside Saltkråkan, the creator and the story meet. This gives the combination both warmth and substance: not only Swedish summer and nostalgia, but also a reminder of the person behind so many of Sweden’s shared childhood memories.
