The same year: five Olympic events
Andrew Hansson was not content with the risky motor-paced cycling shown in the photograph. That same year, 1908, he represented Sweden at the London Olympics and competed in five different cycling events. The velodrome image thus belongs to a season in which he moved between spectacular speed behind a motorcycle and Olympic competition.

The story behind the motif

A motorcyclist acts as a rider to the elite cyclist Andrew Hansson, who is close behind. The picture was taken in 1908 at a Danish velodrome. A velodrome is an oval and inclined track for competitive cyclists and the speed could reach up to 110 km/h, which of course was risky, especially since neither the motorcyclist nor the cyclist had any protection.
