The museum catalogue lists the artist with a reservation: Albert (?) Edelfelt. The question mark is part of the work’s history. The portrait is also a small oil painting on cardboard, measuring just 13.5 × 17.5 centimetres, registered as A IV 3884 in the Finnish National Gallery.

The story behind the motif

Canvas with the beautiful painting A young man by Albert Edelfelt from the late 19th century. The picture depicts a man with a coat and hat, who sits with his gaze towards the viewer.

Albert Edelfelt was one of the first Finnish artists to achieve international fame . In 1895 Edelfelt was elected chairman of the Artists' Guild in Finland and in 1896 he painted Tsar Nicholas II's portrait. Edelfelt's last work was The opening of Åbo Akademi 1640 for the University of Helsinki's ceremonial hall.

If you order from Norway, your order will be delivered with Fedex; to Sweden and the rest of the world with DHL. Your package is normally delivered to your nearest pickup point!
