The Photographer Had a Branch in Abisko
Borg Mesch documented more than Abisko as a visitor. DigitaltMuseum records a photographic branch for him in Abisko, and he also worked for the Swedish Tourist Association. When he photographed the tourist boat, he was therefore right in the midst of the infrastructure that made the mountains accessible and promoted them to a growing Swedish tourist public.

The story behind the motif

Poster with a motif from a steamboat in Abisko in 1924. During the 1920s, Abisko offered tourist tours across Lake Torneträsk with the help of boats.

The steamboat made its debut in 1911 and became a legendary presence during fifty years of service. These boats gave visitors the opportunity to experience the spectacular beauty of Lake Torneträsk and its surroundings.

Located in northern Sweden, the place is known for its scenic beauty and is a popular destination for tourists and adventurers.
