The story behind the motif
Poster featuring a vintage advertisement for one of the most famous American circuses in the world during the late 1800s and early 1900s, Barnum & Bailey's Greatest Show on Earth.
The design of the poster shows three Chinese artists tied together by their hair while sitting up drinking tea. The lyrics, "By the Hair of Their Heads," refer to one of their dramatic aerial acrobatic numbers where they perform their stunts by hanging upside down, suspended by their hair.
The Barnum & Bailey circus was known for its large and often exaggerated acts. In the upper corner of the poster are pictures of P.T. Barnum and James Bailey, the two founders of the circus, strengthening the circus brand and their identity as the world's greatest entertainment.
Frame not included.
