60 movements a day
In 1950, the airlines expected around 30 landings and 30 takeoffs a day at Bromma, mainly by DC-3s on European and domestic routes. At the same time, the state had already established that the airport’s runways, terrain and cramped terminal area were inadequate for the increasingly large aircraft. A new major airport for Stockholm had become necessary.

The story behind the motif

Poster with a unique photograph of Bromma Airport in Stockholm in the 1950s. In the picture, we see travelers hurrying to the plane so as not to get too wet in the rain.

In the early 1950s, more Swedes were better off than before. In 1951, three weeks' holiday legislation was introduced. That combination meant that more people had the opportunity to travel abroad. It also led to charter trips starting to be arranged. The very first charter flight went to Mallorca in 1955.
