When Dill Was a Pharmacy Commodity
In the Medical Botany of the 1830s, dill was recorded not for the kitchen but for the pharmacy: its seeds were recommended for gas-related colic. The work brought together plants from the London, Edinburgh and Dublin pharmacopoeias—from a time when the spice shelf and the medicine cabinet stood considerably closer together.
