The seemingly unguarded moment is a deliberate construction. Nationalmuseum points out that Zorn’s early bathing scenes only pretend to be unarranged: nudity is important, but the painting’s real experiment lies in how the body dissolves into light and shadow. Efter badet is signed 1895.
