Not a Chéret
Despite its connection to Jules Chéret, Electricine was drawn around 1895 by Lucien Lefèvre and printed at Imprimerie Chaix, in Chéret’s studios in Paris. It belongs to the breakthrough years of advertising, when the decorative female figure became a recurring sales argument—whatever product was being advertised.

The story behind the motif
Poster with the illustration Electricine created in 1894 by the French artist Jules Chéret (1836-1932), who was a French painter and graphic artist.

The Electricine poster was part of the growing fascination with electricity and the new technology that revolutionized the world in the late 19th century. The image shows a woman in a white dress standing and examining an electric lamp with a red shade.

A central figure during the French Belle Époque period, Chéret played a crucial role in the development of commercial poster art. He was inspired by Rococo artists such as Jean-Honoré Fragonard and Antoine Watteau, which was reflected in the elegant and playful style of his posters.
