A name shared by several ships
Utgrunden was actually a lightship station, not a single vessel. When the drawing was dated in spring 1865, the lightship Vulkan was already serving there. The following year it was replaced by the iron vessel No. 5 Utgrunden. Lightships continued to serve at the station until 1946, when a caisson lighthouse took over.
