A name shared by several ships
Utgrunden was actually a lightship station, not a single vessel. When the drawing was dated in spring 1865, the lightship Vulkan was already serving there. The following year it was replaced by the iron vessel No. 5 Utgrunden. Lightships continued to serve at the station until 1946, when a caisson lighthouse took over.

The story behind the motif
Poster with a beautiful drawing of the Lighthouse Utgrunden 1865. On the picture we see the text: "Sail drawing for an iron lighthouse with 2 lighthouses. April 5, 1865."

 The ship was built in steel between 1865-1866 was built at Bergsund's Mekaniska Verkstad in Stockholm, at a cost of SEK 105,318.
