One drawing, two lighthouses
The drawing from 1851 was used for two identical lighthouse towers: one on Fjuk in Lake Vättern and the other at Hjortens udde in Lake Vänern. The towers were built the following year, as shipping on the great lakes grew rapidly after the opening of the Göta Canal. The design belongs to the early wooden lighthouses drawn by Nils Gustaf von Heidenstam.

The story behind the motif
A unique drawing of the Lighthouse Vättern and Vättern from 1851. On the picture we see the text: "Detail drawing for Lanterns for the future Lighthouses on Skäret Fjuk in Vättern and on Hjortens udde by Vänern". Signed 12 December 1851.
