The Elstree Debut
The film behind the Swedish title became operetta star Marta Eggerth’s German film debut. It was shot at British International Pictures’ studios in Elstree outside London – an early example of how the new sound film was produced for several language markets. That same year, director Richard Eichberg also made the English-language version, Let’s Love and Laugh.

The story behind the motif

Poster featuring the 1931 film Galna Änkan , a German film classic starring Martha Eggerth and Georg Alexander (original title Die Bräutigamswitwe) .

The film is about Geroge who, the night before his wedding day, marries another woman. After a violent drama of jealousy and fights, George is believed to be dead and the woman has now become the "groom's widow". But what is really true and why did George marry the crazy widow instead of his fiancée? The continuation of the film is an exciting escape from the police, filled with passion and riddles.

In the picture, Martha Eggerth appears as the charming "crazy widow", dressed in an elegant dress, with a bottle of champagne next to her and a cigarette in her hand.

Please note that the images are cropped slightly differently depending on the size you choose. Read more about image and image quality here: FAQ .
