A posthumous bird book
The sheet belongs to the second edition of Svenska fåglar, published in three volumes from 1927 to 1929. When the final volume appeared, all three von Wright brothers had already been dead for at least 23 years – their nineteenth-century illustrations thus found new life in a lavish bird book long afterwards.

The story behind the motif

Poster with an old illustration of a golden eagle from 1929 . The illustration was drawn by the von Wright brothers and published in the book Svenska Fåglar Efter Naturen Och På Sten Ritad . In the picture we see, among other things, the text Aquila chrysaetos - Latin for the name of the species .

In many cultures, the golden eagle has been held in high esteem and surrounded by mystical and religious beliefs. The golden eagle is Härjedalen's landscape bird.
