A Year Before the Reconstruction
The year after the drawing was dated, Hållö Lighthouse was rebuilt from a catoptric light to a dioptric one. Nils Gustaf von Heidenstam’s five-metre-high iron extension raised the light to around 40 metres above sea level—a major advance for maritime safety along the Bohuslän coast.

The story behind the motif
Poster with a beautiful drawing from November 1867, with progress and change of Hållö lighthouse in Smögen. Hållö lighthouse is a so-called anchoring lighthouse located on Hållö in Smögen.

The lighthouse was built in 1842 as a round white stone tower. However, it turned out to be too low, as it was obscured by Sälö in the west. The lighthouse designer Nils Gustav von Heidenstam was contacted, who provided the lighthouse with a 5 meter high steel sheet shoe in 1868. The lighthouse then became 20 meters high and got its current light height of 39.2 meters above sea level.
