When Monet was in London, he painted the Houses of Parliament one late afternoon from a terrace at Saint Thomas Hospital. The view was very similar to that used by Turner in his visionary paintings of the conflagration that would destroy the old Parliament in 1834.
Claude Monet was born in 1840 in Paris and, together with Auguste Renoir, was one of the main pioneers of Impressionism and was also the one who gave the movement its name through his painting Impression. Sunrise from 1872.
Monet was close friends with another famous artist Eduardo Manet who among other things painted A Parisian Lady . With the help of Manet, Monet, in 1871, got hold of a residence in a suburb of Paris named Argenteuil. After the move, Monet began one of the most productive phases of his career, creating many of his most famous works.
