Runeberg’s spirit at sea
Albert Edelfelt painted *I yttersta skären* in the summer of 1898, in the midst of his work on the illustrations for Runeberg’s *Fänrik Ståls sägner*. The painting has been described as a late expression of the Runebergian idealism that shaped Edelfelt’s image of Finland, but in a freer and bolder style than before.

The story behind the motif

Canvas with the beautiful painting In the Outermost Cuts created by Albert Edelfelt in 1898. In the painting we see two women and a man carrying oars, fishing nets and a mast. In the background we see the sea and a fantastic sky at sunrise.

Albert Edelfelt was one of the first Finnish artists to achieve international fame. In 1895 Edelfelt was elected chairman of the Artists' Guild in Finland and in 1896 he painted Tsar Nicholas II's portrait. Edelfelt's last work was The opening of Åbo Akademi 1640 for the University of Helsinki's ceremonial hall.

Delivery time is normally around 5–7 business days within the Nordic countries, as we handcraft our canvas artworks in our factory in Sweden, and the canvas fabric also needs to dry before we stretch it over a wooden frame and ship it to you.

If you order from Norway, your order will be delivered with Fedex; to Sweden and the rest of the world with DHL. Your package is normally delivered to your nearest pickup point!
