When the Christmas Greeting Became Mass-Produced
The card was printed by L. Prang & Co., the firm that turned the commercially printed Christmas greeting into an everyday American commodity in the 1870s. Prang’s colour-printed cards were not merely small greetings, but an early way of disseminating art in large editions – long before today’s Christmas-card displays in shops.
