Photographed at the Hôtel Carlton in Cannes in the mid-1950s, France Nuyen poses with youthful self-effacement. Relaxed but aware of the camera, the image captures an early moment in the rise of an aspiring film actress, against the carefree glamor of the French Riviera. France Nuyen was a French-American actress and model who broke through internationally during the 1950s, including in South Pacific.
The picture was taken by Kary Lasch, a Swedish photographer with a unique international career. He portrayed royalty, artists and movie stars, but also racing's greatest moments. His original works sell at auction for significant sums and have been exhibited at Fotografiska, cementing his position as one of the most important photographers of the 20th century.
