An autumn storm in 1930 felled the forest in Tryvannskleiva and opened the slope where the facility later emerged. When the ski lift was inaugurated in 1938, it was the first north of the Alps – a technological leap in Oslo’s skiing life, long before today’s major alpine resorts.

The story behind the motif

Paul Andreas Røstad was a Norwegian photographer who specialized in landscapes and pictures of folk life. He grew up in Ranheim and later lived in Oslo. Røstad traveled from Nordkapp to Lindesnes and photographed the country in all seasons and his archive eventually covered the whole of Norway.
