The Skis Were the Steering Wheel
The Jämtland invention was really an attempt to motorise skiing. Lennart Nilsson built a tracked vehicle without skis of its own, so the driver steered with the skis on his feet. The unusual construction later had a small film role in Björnön, released in 1979.

The story behind the motif

Poster with the motif The caterpillar from 1965. Larven is a Swedish unconventional snowmobile that has now achieved cult status for its unique design.

The scooter was introduced in 1965 and was manufactured by the company Lenko in Östersund, founded by Lennart Nilsson. It consisted of a long caterpillar track with a seat where the driver steered by adjusting his weight and using his skis.
