Elsa Beskow was a well-known and much-loved Swedish author and illustrator who wrote and illustrated over 40 books that have become classics in Swedish children's literature. Lasse-little in the garden is part of a long series of stories in which Beskow depicts children's adventures in nature, with a mixture of realism and fantasy.
Similar to many of her other works, this work is filled with detailed and beautiful illustrations that complement the poetic text. The theme revolves around the joy of discovery and the child's relationship to nature, something that was consistent in Beskow's work.
