The story behind the motif
Poster with a drawing for a lighthouse, also called lighthouse, which was to be built in Malmö from 1880.
The lighthouse is designed as a tall, narrow pillar with a lighthouse lamp at the top. This was a classic lighthouse design, especially with the domed light house (lantern) at the top to protect the light source and provide maximum visibility.
During the 19th century, many lighthouses around Sweden and Europe were modernized to become more efficient in guiding ships. Lighthouses were important to the Swedish merchant fleet and international shipping, and helped to improve sea lanes and trade routes during the 19th century.
