In 1950, the pace was almost unrelenting: filming of Sommarlek ended on 18 June, and Bergman began work on the spy thriller Sånt händer inte här as early as the beginning of July. Ironically, the latter premiered first, even though Bergman himself later counted it as his most unsuccessful film.

The story behind the motif

Poster with a vintage photograph taken in the 1950s by Sjöberg / KG Kristofferson. In the picture, Ingmar Bergman, one of the most important directors in film history, is caught in the middle of the creative work.

He shapes his hands in front of his face like an imaginary camera frame, a gesture that testifies to his intuitive way of visualizing scenes and finding the exact moment. The intense gaze and focused posture reflect the creative drive that came to characterize his entire life's work. The photograph depicts him at the moment when vision, craft and total presence meet, a concentrated expression of the artistry that made him one of the 20th century's most pioneering storytellers.

Ingmar Bergman developed a cinematic language that is unparalleled. Through works such as The Seventh Seal, The donut stand and Persona he explored the inner life of man, existential questions and the complexity of relationships. His work fundamentally influenced both Swedish and international film and still today inspires filmmakers around the world.
