The story behind the motif

Poster with an idyllic illustration from Elsa Beskow's saga Olle's ski trip which was published for the first time in 1907. 

The picture shows Olle and his little sister outside their home, calling for someone. Soon he will set out on his new skis in the forest where he meets Uncle Rimfrost, who takes him on an adventure through the enchanted landscape of winter. 

Elsa Beskow (1874-1953) was a Swedish author and illustrator, known for her storybooks for children that combine text and images in a unique way. She wrote and illustrated over 40 books that have become classics in Swedish children's literature. Beskow's stories are often filled with nature romance and Nordic folklore, making them timeless and beloved by generations.
