The Book That Spread the Style
Palladio’s architecture became known far beyond the Veneto through his richly illustrated book, published in 1570. Woodcut plans, elevations and measurements made it possible to study the proportions of buildings on paper – a decisive reason why his idiom could inspire followers well into the nineteenth century.

The story behind the motif

Poster featuring a 16th century architectural drawing by Andrea Palladio, widely regarded as the most influential figure in the history of architecture. 

Andrea Palladio (1508-1580) was an Italian architect active in the Republic of Venice. He was strongly influenced by Roman and Greek architecture (mainly by Vitruvius).

Between the years 1721-22, a new edition of Palladio's work was published, with the title The Architecture of A. Palladio; in Four Books, in which these decorative building drawings were included.
