The story behind the motif
Poster with an illustration from Putte's Adventures in the Blueberry Forest, a beloved Swedish children's book written and illustrated by Elsa Beskow, from the year 1901. It is one of Beskow's most famous works and is considered a classic in Swedish children's literature.
The book is about the little boy Putte who goes into the forest to pick berries as a gift for his mother. Unfortunately, he doesn't find any, which makes him sad. Then the Old Man Blueberry appears and takes him on a magical adventure through the blueberry forest and the lingonberry forest, where he gets help filling his baskets with berries.

He searched and searched with great difficulty, but alas he found no berries, at last he sank down on a stump. It wasn't far to tears again; then it slowly touched Putte's leg and there stood a little old man.
