Her son became Putte
In the summer of 1900, Elsa and Natanael Beskow rented a cottage on Husarö in the Stockholm archipelago. There, Elsa used her two-year-old son Stig as a model for the first time while working on the illustrations for the book published the following year.

The story behind the motif

Poster with an illustration from Putte's Adventures in the Blueberry Forest, a beloved Swedish children's book written and illustrated by Elsa Beskow, from the year 1901. It is one of Beskow's most famous works and is considered a classic in Swedish children's literature.

The book is about the little boy Putte who goes into the forest to pick berries as a gift for his mother. Unfortunately, he doesn't find any, which makes him sad. Then the Old Man Blueberry appears and takes him on a magical adventure through the blueberry forest and the lingonberry forest, where he gets help filling his baskets with berries.

In this motif we see the lingonberry mother and her daughters. Below them we see the text:

"Beyond that sits with dignified mine
a lingonberry mother so neat and nice
with all his daughters.
They dried lingonberries all day,
they will boil them in honey,
but rub them first to make them shine."
