When Oslo was called Kristiania
When the image was taken in 1909, Oslo was still called Kristiania; the name Oslo was not reinstated until 1925. Photographer Anders Beer Wilse had then been back in Norway for only nine years after sixteen years in the United States, and soon became the person who most accurately documented the capital’s rapid transformation.
