When the Rose Belonged in the Pharmacy
This plate was printed in a book that served as an illustrated guide to the plant medicines of the pharmacy. Medical Botany was published in 1834–36, based on the pharmacopoeias of London, Edinburgh and Dublin, and included Rosa gallica because its petals were used medicinally. Roses were therefore also part of pharmacy knowledge, not just garden art.
