In the royal car fleet, the registration plate could literally make room for a symbol: whenever the King’s Cadillac was used, it was replaced by a golden crown above the grille. A Cadillac at Gustaf V’s disposal from 1931 to 1941 was often brought out for state visits.

The story behind the motif
