Saving Began with 12 Skillings
When Sparbanken advertised with promises of the future in 1927, the idea already had deep roots in Gothenburg. Sweden’s first savings bank opened here in 1820, and the first account was opened in the name of three-year-old Carolina Hammardahl with a deposit of 12 skillings – a sum that at the time was not even enough to buy a small part of a theatre ticket.

The story behind the motif

A unique poster with a beautiful, colorful advertising poster from the year 1927. The advertisement is for the Sparbanken , which can be seen through the text: That's how we have it - and we have money at the Sparbanken .

When the first savings bank opened in Gothenburg in 1820, the idea was that "everyone should be able to build their own economy in order to be empowered to improve their conditions". This is illustrated by the image of a couple in period clothing standing and looking at a red house with white knots. This house is thus what they should have .
