When Oslo Was Called Kristiania
When the photograph was taken, the city was officially called Kristiania—the name Oslo was not reinstated until 1 January 1925. The year 1900 was also a turning point for the city’s trams: Kristiania Sporveisselskab had just switched to electric power, while the horse-drawn tram was disappearing from the streetscape.
