The story behind the motif
Poster with the beautiful painting Forest Worker and His Children by Hans Andersen Brendekilde (1857-1942). The painting shows a forest worker talking to his daughter in a fantastic autumn landscape with deep orange tones combined with gray tree trunks and beautiful green spruces.
Brendenkilde was a Danish artist who focused on social realism in his motifs where he often depicted everyday scenes from people's lives. Brendenkilde was a distant relative of HC Andersen and grew up in poverty. He worked his way up from working as a sheep herder as a 10-year-old to later in life leaving the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts with the highest honors to become one of Denmark's most prominent artists in social realism and impressionism during his lifetime.
