Two Kroner and a Bottle
The face behind Tiedemannsfiskeren was not given a name until 2007: the Trondheim fisherman Hans Peter Jacobsøn Wiggen. When he posed in 1894, his payment is said to have been two kroner and a bottle of spirits – a modest sum for a face that became a Norwegian advertising icon.

The story behind the motif

Posts with "The Tiedemann Fisherman" from the beginning of the 20th century and is an advertising poster for Tiedemann's Tobacco. The illustration føresteller Hans Peter Jacobsen Wiggen and he is depicted with a beard and a pipe, leaning over a table top.

The picture gives an impression of coastal and fishing life. The text "er dog den beste" reinforces the message of quality and links the brand to tradition, authenticity and Norwegian sailor life.

Hans Peter Jacobsen Wiggen was a Norwegian fisherman who became famous gin posters and photographs where his face became a symbol of Norwegian coastal life. He was thus not a public figure in general, but became known primarily through his role in tobacco advertising.
