The story behind the motif
Poster with a beautiful painting by Albert Edelfelt from 1896. The painting is called Yngling och najad and in it we see a young man who is imprisoned by a female fairy creature in a lake with water lilies.
The painting's beautiful forest setting and mysterious essence give it a mythological feel. In Greek mythology, the Naiads are fresh water nymphs who rule over rivers, streams, streams, springs, wells, marshes, ponds and lakes.
The painting has, among other things, been included in the exhibition Trollbunden - John Bauer and the magical nature in Nordic art.
Albert Edelfelt was a Finnish-Swedish artist. He was one of the first Finnish artists to achieve international fame.
